Print and Pattern Feature

I am over the moon to have been featured on my all-time favourite textile blog... PRINT AND PATTERN! I always go on the blog when searching for inspiration from some of the best surface and print designers in the industry. So to see my work on it is amazing!

Aimee King

The second of my New Designers Top 10 goes to Aimee King
With a very different style to the previous designer I have displayed, Aimee King uses extremely feminine watercolour paintings to produce beautiful floral prints which she then transfers onto fabrics for upholstery

New Designers Talent- Lisa Martin

Whilst at New Designers 2012, I had the privilege of exhibiting amongst the cream of this year's design graduates. I picked up a whole mass of business cards and have chosen a Top Ten to be featured in their own blog post...

First comes Lisa Martin

I absolutely love her quirky style that she uses to  create the cutest prints for the children's market.  See more of her fantastic work here... http://lisamartin-illustration.com/index.html

A new twist on the old....

I have played around with the motifs of some of my previous designs,  producing  entirely diffetent placement prints aimed for the greetings card market.

A Great British Summer

A little design tribute to say goodbye to Summer (well the little we saw of it anyway)...

About time too....

I have definitely been neglecting my blog over the last couple of months. Things have been hectic to say the least, getting used to life without university, Leeds and student lie-ins! But I have made a promise to myself to keep this blog in full-flow from this point onwards and to get myself back into full design swing!

Degree Results

I GOT A FIRST!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Room-Sets

The second collection from my final graduate project is displayed in the previous post. The collection is made up of five wallpaper borders for a nursery room. All the designs were produced using my watercolour studies, creating a distinctly different collection to the wallpaper prints.

New Designers 2012

Well I've had a bit of a break from posting over the last week as I have now fully moved out of Leeds (Sob) and have just got back from 5 days in London at New Designers and WOWEEE what an amazing show! The standard of work on display was unbelievable and it was a privilidge to be able to show my work amongst such incredible design talent from across the UK.

Hand-drawn Type

Below are some examples of my own experimentation into hand-drawn type during the childhood nostalgia project.

Typography

For my final semester project I decided to introduce a mixture of hand-drawn and computerised typography into my designs, inspired by the work shown below..
Gant Powell: Hand-drawn text
EcoJot Journal Designs

I love the combination of  different fonts and scale
change used in the above two prints designed for EcoJot.
Karel Capek Designs

Julia Rothman
The clever mixture of different fonts in Julia Rothman's work
allows the text to be viewed as a pattern not just as words.

Reveal 2012: Catalogues

Received my two copies of the University of Leeds degree show catalogue today. The book is looking brilliant, showcasing the work of all graduates across the 4 design disciplines; Art & Design, Fashion Design, Graphic & Communication Design and Textile Design...

Scenes of Childhood: Margaret Clarkson

One of the main inspirations for my watercolour drawings was from looking at the stunning work of Margaret ClarksonThe combination of pen and watercolour in her illustrations works  perfectly. The black line adds definition to the figures but without detracting the attention away from the delicate strokes of colour.

"Most of the ideas I have come from my childhood. I don't know whether I was really observant but the detail and atmosphere seems to have been etched on my memory – which is extremely useful now!"- Margaret Clarkson
